Who it's for and when to use it

Use it when learners send you writing to check between lessons: an email to a manager, a college essay, a cover letter or a report. Instead of a document arriving with "can you check this?", you get the type, the deadline and exactly what they're worried about.

The focus question, grammar, tone, structure or vocabulary, changes how you mark. A learner who asks about tone in an email to their boss wants something different from one who wants every grammar mistake corrected.

The deadline question helps you plan your week, and the notes box asks who will read the writing or whether there's a word limit. For regular homework, use the homework submission form.

How to use it in 3 steps

  1. Pick the template

Click Use this template, or choose “Writing feedback request” under New form in Bear Forms. All the questions are already there.

  2. Make it yours

Every question is ready to use as it is. Change, add or remove any of them to fit how you work.

  3. Share the link

Publish, then send the link by email or text, put it in your Instagram bio or Google Business Profile, or paste two lines of code to show it on your website.

Tips for better responses

  • Mark only what they asked for, mostly. If a learner asks about tone, lead with tone. Mention one or two other issues, but don't bury the answer.
  • Watch the deadline. Sort requests by deadline in your responses table so urgent cover letters come first.
  • Explain, don't just correct. A short note on why a sentence sounds too direct teaches more than a silent correction.
  • Set your turnaround in the thank-you message. Add your usual turnaround time, like two working days, so learners plan around it.

Make it your own

  • Paid proofreading? Add a word count question so you can quote the job before starting.
  • Exam essays? Add the exam name, like IELTS or TOEFL, and the essay task, to mark against the right criteria.
  • Interview cover letters? Pair with the job interview prep request.

Frequently asked questions

What should a writing feedback request include?

It should include the type of writing, the document itself, the deadline and what the writer wants feedback on, such as grammar, tone, structure or vocabulary. This template asks for all of that, plus notes like who will read it.

What files can learners upload?

PDF, Word documents and plain text files. The upload is required, so every request comes with the writing attached.

Can learners ask for feedback on several things?

Yes. The focus question lets them tick grammar, tone, structure and vocabulary in any combination.

How do I return the feedback?

Reply by email with your comments or a marked-up copy of the document. You'll get an email alert for each new request, so you can see it straight away.

Where do responses go?

Every response lands in your Bear Forms dashboard, in a table you can read at a glance, and you get an email alert as soon as it arrives. You can also export all responses to a CSV file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

Can I change the form later?

Yes, at any time. Edit, add or remove questions, then publish again. The link stays the same, so the form on your website or in your bio updates for everyone.

Does the form work on phones?

Yes. Most parents open forms on their phones, so the form fits any screen size. Multi-step forms show a progress bar, and file uploads work from a phone's camera roll.
